Charity
I was tearing while watching the charity show last night. It was a multitude of feelings that compelled the sudden outburst, I was quite surprised myself too. But truly, I am disappointed at the way charity is flaunted and advertised on the mass media. One thing my gp teacher once said has stuck on my mind. "Charity is much more than money!". How true! But how many pple have stopped twice to think about it? It is so much about the attitude. How often have i seen pple turning a blind eye to pregnant ladies and old pple bent over their walking sticks. Those who shut their eyes, feigning ignorance of the situation? Perhaps they want to suppress their awakening self conscience, if it is even present. Charity is present is everyday living. It's supposed to be part of a lifestyle, not a random event that occurs once in a while, casually pressing the hotline to pay $5 to tell ourselves-yes. I'm gd you know. I have love. I've donated. Period. Paying that amount to justify ourselves.
Charity is everywhere. It is stopping to help that schoolgirl pick up papers flown everywhere on the road. It is helping someone to carry stuff on the same way. It is offering to drive someone home. It is even a smile. Goodness-how many of us actually muster a smile? Perhaps a smile to encourage that sweeper who dutifully does his job everyday near your block. Was quite shocked once when i was getting ready for sch, wearing my shoes just outside my home. The man delivering newspapers wore no shoes. He delivered the papers barefoot from unit to unit, block to block. Why?! Because s'poreans complain of the scuffling of his shoes when he delivers. Are we charitable? And we sleep soundly and wake up and pick up the paper at our doorstep, taking everything that we have for granted. Pls-charity?
Or that pple mock at the disabled. And even tell their grandchildren to not sit near them on the bus, because they are crazy. (i saw this) We laugh and avoid and mock-only to cry and tear when there's a charity show on tv accompanied by sadsad tunes and sadsad stories and dangerous stunts (and getting more and more dangerous). Newspapers will blow out the statistics of which artiste managed to "reap" the most calls during their performance on stage. And whether "target-the amt of money" was hit. Yes, and end of story and lots of people will go back to their old ways, because youknowiknoweveryoneknows that this kinda thing is a random event and so everyone goes bk to their own horrible ways.
Pls make a donation. It will help make a difference in their lives.
A donation will help. Certainly, definitely. But making a difference? Man, you gotta cure that indifference in your life first.
